The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to relocating traders from the bustling Ikeja Computer Village to Kantagua, Abule-Egba, asserting that the decision is final and non-negotiable.
Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on eGIS and Urban Development, emphasized this stance during a recent inspection tour of the Ikeja Computer Village. Accompanied by top officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), Babatunde reiterated the government’s dedication to urban regeneration and development.
Babatunde underscored Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s resolve to restore Lagos’s master plan, which has been compromised by the commercialization of residential areas like the Ikeja Computer Village. He outlined the ongoing relocation process to Kantagua, highlighting the envisioned world-class facilities, including schools, hospitals, hotels, and banking facilities, aimed at enhancing shopping experiences and aligning with the megacity status.
Explaining the rationale behind the relocation, Babatunde emphasized that the current status of the Ikeja Computer Village contradicts the city’s modern urban planning. He emphasized the need to restore the residential nature of the area and reiterated the government’s commitment to adhering to land-use regulations.
Babatunde further emphasized that Lagos’s rapid growth necessitates proper urban planning to mitigate traffic congestion and other adverse effects on citizens. He assured shop owners and traders of a transparent relocation process, emphasizing stakeholder consultation to ensure their interests are accommodated.
The special adviser emphasized that urban regeneration efforts extend beyond the Computer Village, with plans to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance security across the state. Babatunde expressed confidence that these redevelopment initiatives would soon yield positive results for Lagosians.
