Lagos State Government Postpones Annual Boat Regatta Amidst Anticipation

The Lagos State Government has announced the postponement of its highly anticipated boat regatta, originally scheduled for Easter Monday, April 1, 2024. The event, renowned for celebrating the maritime heritage of Lagos through traditional boat racing and cultural performances, has been deferred to ensure optimal participation and enjoyment for all attendees.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, signed by Permanent Secretary Mrs. Oloruntoyin Atekoya, the postponement was attributed to the government’s commitment to meticulous coordination and preparation. The ministry assured stakeholders and Lagosians of a rescheduled date that promises an unforgettable experience for residents and visitors alike.

“The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and pledges to communicate the new date for the Lagos State Boat Regatta at the earliest opportunity,” the statement read.

Acknowledging the understanding and flexibility of participants, stakeholders, and sponsors, the ministry expressed gratitude for their support amidst the unforeseen circumstances.

Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, emphasized the significance of the Lagos Boat Regatta in showcasing the aquatic beauty of the state. She reiterated the government’s commitment to positioning Lagos as Africa’s premier tourism destination, with the regatta serving as a platform to promote the state’s beaches and hospitality establishments.

Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, highlighted the focus of the regatta on empowering local fishing communities and maximizing the event’s socio-economic benefits.
