In a proactive move, officers from the Okokomaiko Division of the Lagos State Police Command intercepted a Volkswagen LT bus on Saturday evening, discovering seventy cartons of expired drugs. Two suspects were apprehended in connection with the illicit transport of the pharmaceuticals.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s Public Relations Officer, shared details of the operation in a statement on Sunday. The interception occurred at Afromedia, where officers, during a routine search, discovered seventy cartons of Feed Fine Cyproheptadine Caplets 4g, all bearing an expiry date of 2016.
The two occupants of the bus, identified as Augustine Egemoye (60) and Innocent Eremosele (35), confessed to transporting the expired drugs to an individual in Alaba. Their intention was to change the expiry dates, after which the drugs were destined for Port Harcourt for sale.
Hundeyin stated, “The suspects, drugs, and the vehicle are currently in custody. Efforts are on to arrest the owner of the drugs, the individual altering expiry dates, and other indicted persons.”
This incident echoes a similar occurrence in August 2023 when the Kano State Police Command confiscated 820 cartons of suspected fake and expired drugs at Mallam Kato Market in the Fagge Local Government Area of the state.
