Lagos Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Motorcycle Operations, Impounds 115 Bikes

The Lagos State Taskforce has ramped up enforcement against commercial motorcycle operators flouting the state’s traffic regulations, impounding 115 motorcycles in a renewed crackdown. The operation, led by Taskforce Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele, targets riders who continue to operate on prohibited routes despite the existing ban.

According to a statement from the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the latest enforcement actions took place in key areas such as LASU First Gate, Ipaja Gate, Governor’s Road, Igando, and Dopemu, where riders were found defying the restrictions.

“The agency, in collaboration with other security outfits, had vowed to maintain its zero-tolerance approach to violations on these restricted routes,” Akerele stated, emphasizing the ban’s aim to protect public safety. He warned that those who continue to breach the regulations will face “the full wrath of the law.”

Akerele highlighted that despite repeated warnings and sensitization efforts, some operators remain defiant, posing risks to the public. The confiscated motorcycles are set to face legal action as part of ongoing measures to deter violations.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the THEMES PLUS Agenda, which focuses on safety and security among other priorities, Akerele urged operators to comply with the law. He also called on residents to report violations and avoid patronizing illegal riders for their safety.

The task force promised to sustain its enforcement activities across the state, particularly in areas known for illegal motorcycle operations.
