Kwara State Donates N2 Million to Survivors of Boat Mishap

The Kwara State Government has pledged N2 million to cover the medical bills of survivors from a recent boat accident in Gbajigbo village, Kaiama Local Government Area. The announcement was made on Friday by the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, who led a delegation to condole the victims and their families.

The tragedy occurred on Tuesday night when over 200 passengers traveling to Gbajigbo for an annual Maulud celebration were involved in a boat mishap at Mundi River. The accident claimed many lives, though approximately 50 survivors were rescued and treated at the village’s Primary Health Center.

In a statement from the Speaker’s office, Danladi-Salihu conveyed the state’s sympathies during a visit to the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Kiyaru IV. The Speaker noted that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was deeply saddened by the incident and emphasized the need for safety measures, urging travelers to use life jackets.

“The Governor decided to send this powerful delegation to commiserate with the Emir, the victims, and the people of Gbajigbo,” Danladi-Salihu said.

The Emir of Kaiama expressed appreciation for the swift response from the state government, praying for the delegation’s safe return.

During his visit to Gbajigbo, the Speaker also interacted with local leaders, promising further government support.
