Popular filmmaker Kunle Afolayan stirred controversy when he shared a video of himself dancing with his daughter, Eyiyemi, at the premiere of his Netflix movie series, ‘Anikulapo Series: Rise of Spectre.’ The dance was deemed by some as sensual and inappropriate between a father and daughter, particularly one believed to be a teenager.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, clinical psychologist John Eze highlighted that cultural norms and family dynamics influence perceptions of appropriateness. He emphasized that comfort between the father and daughter plays a crucial role. Another psychologist, speaking anonymously, noted that generational differences and evolving societal norms challenge traditional boundaries, questioning the appropriateness from cultural, religious, and psychological perspectives. The incident has sparked discussions about cultural variations and shifting norms in today’s society.
