Kogi State Government Dismisses Defection Rumors Surrounding Governor Ododo

LOKOJA – The Kogi State Government has strongly refuted rumors that Governor Ahmed Ododo is planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The speculation arose after the governor was seen at an event with members of the opposition, sparking rumors of a potential political shift.

In a statement released on Saturday by Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, the government accused those spreading the rumor of being individuals “who are still rueing their woeful failure at the law courts and probably trying to find a back door into the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

Fanwo clarified that the photograph being circulated, which allegedly fueled the defection rumors, was taken at the wedding ceremony of the daughter of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas. The event was attended by dignitaries from across the political spectrum, including Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima and governors from various parties.

“Governor Ododo was at the occasion to honor the daughter of a colleague, like other governors did. It is unintelligent to insinuate that the Governor is abandoning the party that supported him all through his electioneering and the litigations,” the statement read.

The commissioner also highlighted Governor Ododo’s recent Supreme Court victory, where the court dismissed the appeal of Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Muritala Ajaka, affirming Ododo’s victory in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election.

Fanwo reassured the people of Kogi State that Governor Ododo remains a committed member of the APC and continues to support the party’s efforts both within the state and nationally. He also called on the media to uphold the tenets of journalism by avoiding the dissemination of falsehoods and unverified information.

“We want to assure the good people of Kogi State that their Governor remains a solid member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and will support the party’s success, not only in Kogi State, but nationally,” Fanwo stated, urging the public to disregard the unfounded rumors.
