Keely Hodgkinson to Miss Rest of 2024 Athletics Season Due to Injury

Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson has announced she will miss the remainder of the 2024 athletics season after sustaining an injury. The 22-year-old British athlete was scheduled to compete in the Diamond League finals in Brussels next month but will now focus on her recovery.

Hodgkinson enjoyed an impeccable season, winning all nine of her 800m races, culminating in a gold medal at the Paris Olympics earlier this month. Despite the injury setback, she expressed gratitude for her successful year.

“No more races for me,” Hodgkinson shared on Instagram. “Unfortunately, I picked up a small injury, but we achieved everything I had hoped to do this year, thank you for all the love and support. See you on the track next year.”

In addition to her Olympic triumph, Hodgkinson defended her European 800m title and set a new national record, clocking 1:54.61 at the London Diamond League in July. Her ambitions remain high as she aims to break the long-standing women’s 800m world record of 1:53.28 and secure her first World Championship title in Tokyo in 2025, having claimed silver in the previous two championships.

Hodgkinson’s fans will eagerly await her return to the track next year, as she continues to pursue her goals in the sport.
