Pop superstar Katy Perry has revealed that she will be bidding farewell to her role as a judge on “American Idol” to headline the prestigious Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil. Perry made the announcement during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Monday, exciting fans with the news of her upcoming performance.
During her interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Perry expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming music festival, describing it as a significant event not only for her Brazilian fans but for music lovers worldwide. “This fall, this September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio. It’s really exciting. It’s a big deal for people all over the world, especially my Brazilian fans,” Perry revealed, hinting at the magnitude of the event.
Acknowledging her deep affection for “American Idol,” where she has served as a judge alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan since 2018, Perry expressed gratitude for the experience while explaining her decision to move on.
“I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America. But I need to feel that pulse of my own beat,” Perry explained, hinting at her desire to pursue new musical endeavors.
Perry took to Instagram to further confirm her departure from “American Idol,” engaging her followers in a playful guessing game. Alongside a photo of herself, she wrote,
“Let’s play two truths and a lie: 1. I beat @usher at Monopoly Deal. 2. I’m headlining Rock in Rio this September. 3. This is my last season on @americanidol.”
