Kano State Police Reinforce Ban on Public Protests Amidst Emirship Tussle Hearing

The Kano State Police Command has reiterated the enforcement of its ban on public protests, processions, and unlawful gatherings, reminding residents of the ongoing restrictions. This announcement was made in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, on Thursday.

Haruna emphasized the necessity of this reminder as the Federal High Court in Kano is set to hear sensitive matters concerning the emirship tussle. The statement called on the public to remain patriotic and avoid being manipulated by those intent on causing violence, stressing the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

“Members of the general public are called upon to remain patriotic and to shun any attempt by enemies of the peace from using them to cause violence as the lives of everyone are sacred and the priority of the Police to protect them including their property,” Haruna stated.

The police command confirmed its dedication to crime prevention and law enforcement. “Police alongside all law enforcement agencies in the state are strictly enforcing the total ban placed by Kano State Government on public protests, processions, and related unlawful gatherings and further committed to the preservation of law and order,” the statement read.

Haruna warned that violators and their sponsors would be identified and sanctioned according to the law. He assured that there would be a significant deployment of security personnel to enforce these measures and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Residents were urged to cooperate with security personnel and provide actionable information to help maintain peace. “Patriotic residents are called upon to note and cooperate with the large number of security personnel they will be coming across. They are expected to provide them with actionable information and intelligence to preserve the peace and detect, arrest, investigate and prosecute the deviants,” Haruna added.

For clarity, the police stated that non-state actors, including vigilantes and hunters, are prohibited from participating under the pretense of providing security.
