The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, issued a stern warning to Bello El-Rufai, son of the former governor Nasir El-Rufai, cautioning against threats and intimidation aimed at obstructing the House’s investigation into his father’s tenure.
In response to the establishment of a committee tasked with probing financial dealings, loans, grants, and project implementation during the period of 2015-2023 under the administration of ex-governor El-Rufai, Bello El-Rufai reportedly took to social media, with now-deleted tweets, inciting confrontation and disparaging the state legislative body.
The Speaker, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Strategic Communications, Suraj Bamali, expressed disappointment at the conduct of a federal lawmaker, emphasizing that such actions aimed at obstructing the lawful functions of the State Assembly were unacceptable.
Liman reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, urging the people of Kaduna State to stand firm in their support for these principles. He assured that threats and intimidation, regardless of the source, would not deter the Assembly from fulfilling its duty to provide checks and balances.
The statement highlighted Bello El-Rufai’s alleged actions, including insulting and subtly threatening messages directed at the Speaker, which have caused concern among the citizens of Kaduna State. The Assembly emphasized its unwavering dedication to serving the state and its citizens without bias or fear, emphasizing the members’ oath to uphold the integrity of their office despite any attempts at intimidation.
