Judd Trump Clinches Saudi Arabia Masters Title with Thrilling Final-Frame Win

World number one Judd Trump secured the inaugural Saudi Arabia Masters title in dramatic fashion, edging out Mark Williams 10-9 in a tense final frame. The 35-year-old Englishman cleared the table with a decisive break of 72 after Williams, leading by 62, missed a crucial red.

Trump, who had been considering flights home after falling 4-0 behind to Wu Yize in his first match, walked away with a £500,000 prize, the largest for any ranking event outside the World Championship. “I’m in shock,” Trump said. “Mark was the much better player, I just found something at the end.”

The victory marks Trump’s 29th ranking title, moving him past Steve Davis and putting him fourth on the all-time list behind snooker legends Ronnie O’Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, and John Higgins.

Despite Trump’s strong start, Welshman Williams mounted a comeback, with a brilliant 138 break putting him 9-8 ahead. However, Trump leveled the score and triumphed in the final frame. “What a break he has made in the last frame,” Williams said. “For half a million quid, 62 behind, two reds safe—what can you say?”

The tournament, the most lucrative in snooker outside of the World Championship, also faced scrutiny due to Saudi Arabia’s controversial human rights record and accusations of “sportswashing.” However, Trump believes the event has the potential to become a prestigious fixture in the sport.
