Juan Mata Joins Western Sydney Wanderers on One-Year Deal

Former Manchester United and Chelsea star Juan Mata has signed a one-year contract with A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers. The 36-year-old Spanish midfielder has been a free agent since leaving Japanese club Vissel Kobe in January 2024.

Mata, who previously played for Galatasaray in Turkey, expressed his excitement about joining the Wanderers, a club known for being the only Australian team to win the Asian Champions League. “I’m feeling grateful and excited for this new adventure,” Mata said, “and looking forward to trying to win another championship in a different league.”

Mata’s career highlights include winning the Champions League and FA Cup with Chelsea, as well as securing the Europa League in 2013. A 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 winner with Spain, Mata also spent eight successful years at Manchester United, where he won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Europa League.
