Britain’s Jacob Fearnley extended his remarkable winning streak to 13 matches after defeating Corentin Moutet at the Stockholm Open. The 23-year-old Scot, who was unranked just over a year ago, has made a meteoric rise into the top 100 after claiming four consecutive Challenger titles.
Fearnley secured a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) victory over France’s Moutet, advancing to the second round of the ATP 250 event in Sweden, where he will face Dutch seventh seed Tallon Griekspoor. This marks Fearnley’s second ATP Tour-level win, following his first-round triumph at Wimbledon in July, where he competed as a wildcard.
Having climbed from 1,893rd in September 2023 to his current position of 98th, Fearnley’s rise is the fourth largest jump into the top 100 since 2000, according to ATP statistics.
Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie, another British player, continued his recovery from an arm injury but fell 6-4, 6-4 to Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic at the same event.
Elsewhere, Dan Evans advanced to the second round of the Almaty Open in Kazakhstan with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win over Japan’s Taro Daniel.
In the women’s circuit, British number one Katie Boulter overcame Italy’s Sara Errani 6-3, 6-2 at the Ningbo Open in China, while Harriet Dart won a tough three-set battle at the Japan Open, beating Germany’s Laura Siegemund 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
