Jack Draper Joins Great Britain Davis Cup Squad Amid Injury Concerns

Jack Draper is set to join the Great Britain Davis Cup team on Tuesday despite nursing a minor injury sustained during his intense US Open semi-final loss to Jannik Sinner. Draper, 22, is “working hard to get fit” after what he described as a “niggle” following the match in New York.

A spokesperson for Draper confirmed, “After a short turnaround following the US Open, Jack will be joining the team in Manchester on Tuesday ahead of the first match on Wednesday.” The team’s captain, Leon Smith, will take Draper’s condition into account when finalizing his selection.

Great Britain faces a challenging Group D lineup, starting with Finland on Wednesday, followed by Argentina on Friday, and 2022 champions Canada on Sunday, 15 September.

Henry Patten, who won the Wimbledon men’s doubles title with Finland’s Harri Heliovaara, has been called in to replace Joe Salisbury. Captain Smith’s squad also includes Billy Harris, Dan Evans, and experienced doubles player Neal Skupski. Harris replaces Cameron Norrie, who withdrew from the US Open due to injury.

The Davis Cup finals will be held in November in Malaga, Spain, with eight countries vying for the title.
