Ivan Toney’s Brentford Future Uncertain Amid Transfer Speculation, Says Thomas Frank

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has acknowledged that Ivan Toney’s future at the club remains uncertain, with the striker potentially being involved in Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool. The 28-year-old was notably absent from Brentford’s opening day victory over Crystal Palace, fueling speculation about his future.

Toney has been linked with several clubs, including those in the Saudi Pro League, and BBC Sport reports that Brentford has already rejected a £35 million offer from Saudi side Al-Ahli.

“Ivan trained the whole week with a good attitude in every aspect. He could be involved, he could not be involved,” Frank stated. “He could be here after the 30th [of August], and he could not be here. Basically, everything is up in the air.”

Frank emphasized his contentment with whatever decision is made, saying, “If he’s here, I’m very happy. If he’s not here, then I’m happy on his behalf.”

Toney has been a key player for Brentford since joining from Peterborough in 2020, scoring 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances during the 2022-23 season. Despite serving an eight-month ban for breaching Football Association gambling rules, Toney was included in England’s squad for this summer’s European Championship final.

Frank did not provide any further details on Toney’s ongoing negotiations with other clubs, leaving his immediate future uncertain as the transfer window nears its end.
