Israeli forces have initiated a limited ground operation targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This move comes as tensions in the region continue to escalate following a series of military exchanges.
In addition to the ground operation, Israeli troops launched airstrikes on Beirut, the Lebanese capital, early Wednesday, focusing on what the IDF described as “terrorist targets.” Multiple evacuation orders were issued for residents in Beirut’s southern suburbs, though no immediate reports of casualties or damage have emerged.
The situation intensified after Iran fired approximately 180 rockets at Israel on Tuesday evening. Iran’s missile attack was reportedly in retaliation for the deaths of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah. In response, Iran warned of more “devastating and destructive” attacks if Israel retaliates.
The ongoing military actions between Israel, Hezbollah, and Iran have stoked fears that the region may be on the verge of a broader conflict, with both sides continuing to trade fire.
