INEC Official Rhoda Gumus Vows to Resist Bribery in Edo Gubernatorial Election

Rhoda Gumus, the national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) overseeing the Edo State gubernatorial election, has pledged to uphold the integrity of the electoral process by resisting any form of bribery. Speaking on Channels TV’s *Politics Today* program, Gumus firmly stated her commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election.

“I am in charge of Edo. I want to do the right thing, even though I will not be everywhere. We will conduct this election in a free, fair, and credible manner,” she said.

Gumus emphasized that she would not be swayed by any monetary inducements, regardless of the amount offered. “I cannot take bribes no matter how much. I don’t have to take billions to do what is right,” she declared, stressing her determination to maintain a transparent process.

She further warned against any attempts to influence her actions, asserting, “Nowhere, nobody will try. Nobody will try me. You know in any office… you are in this country; they know everything about you. And when they know you, they will not come near. If I see it, I will not allow it.”

Gumus also highlighted her constant monitoring of the election process, maintaining regular contact with electoral officials. “Since we started this process, every day, I am on the platform with the EOCs. In five or two minutes’ intervals, I will enter the platform to know what is happening. If there is anything, I would correct. That is what I have been doing,” she added.
