INEC Closes Accreditation Portal for Edo Governorship Election, No Extension

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the accreditation portal for media coverage of the upcoming Edo State governorship election will close tonight at midnight, with no possibility of an extension.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, emphasized the critical importance of adhering to this deadline. The Edo State governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024.

So far, 113 media organizations have successfully registered 865 journalists to cover the event. INEC made it clear that any media outlet that fails to complete the accreditation process before the deadline will be barred from observing both the voting process and the collation of results.

Olumekun’s statement urged media organizations to act swiftly to ensure their participation in the election, reiterating, “The deadline is sacrosanct. There will be no extension of time while unaccredited media organisations will not be allowed to observe voting in the field or collation of results at the various centres.”
