India secured a seven-wicket victory against Bangladesh on the final day of the rain-hit second Test in Kanpur, completing a 2-0 series sweep. The win, achieved with two-and-a-half days lost to rain, marks India’s 18th consecutive home Test series win, extending their world record.
Bangladesh, having posted 233 in their first innings with Mominul Haque’s unbeaten 107, struggled in the second innings, managing just 146. Jasprit Bumrah (3-17), Ravichandran Ashwin (3-50), and Ravindra Jadeja (3-34) were instrumental in dismissing the visitors before lunch, leaving India with a target of 95.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, with his second half-century of the match (51), led India’s chase, supported by fellow opener KL Rahul. India comfortably reached 98-3 to seal the win.
India had set the stage for victory on day four with a record-breaking batting performance, becoming the fastest team to reach 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs in Test cricket. This is their first Test series under newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir.
The two sides will now switch to the shorter format, with a three-match T20 series starting in Gwalior on Sunday.
