The International Council for Ifa Religion (ICIR) has issued a statement refuting claims made on social media about the Yoruba race’s involvement in encouraging slavery. The ICIR President, Fayemi Fakayode, addressed these allegations, calling them historically inaccurate and damaging to the Yoruba people’s reputation.
Fakayode stated, “We are issuing this statement to address the grossly misleading, false and harmful statements made by Erelu Lola Ayorinde on various social media platforms and in interviews. Her persistent assertions that the Yoruba race encouraged slavery are not only historically inaccurate and false but also perpetuate harmful stereotypes, damaging the reputation of the Yoruba people.”
The ICIR emphasized the importance of correcting these falsehoods to prevent them from misleading the younger generation. Fakayode urged the public to conduct more research and exercise critical thinking about these statements, highlighting the need to preserve the truth and cultural integrity of the Yoruba people.
