House of Representatives Passes Bill for Judicial Salary Review

The House of Representatives has approved a bill for an upward review of the salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of judicial office holders in Nigeria, with significant increases across the board.

According to the bill submitted by President Bola Tinubu, the Chief Justice of Nigeria is set to receive a total monthly package of N5.39 million, while other justices of the Supreme Court will earn N4.21 million monthly. The President of the Court of Appeal is slated to receive a total monthly package of N4.48 million.

Justices of the Court of Appeal will earn N3.73 million monthly, while various other judicial office holders, including the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and others, will receive a total monthly package of N3.53 million.

This monthly package encompasses basic salaries and various regular allowances, covering aspects such as car fueling and maintenance, personal assistance, hardship, entertainment, utilities, security, outfit, journal subscriptions, medicals, service allowances, restricted lifestyle, dual responsibility, and legal researchers.

Additionally, the House approved other job regular allowances, including leave allowances, estacode per night, duty tour allowances, severance gratuity of N80.78 million at the end of tenure, and the option of a motor vehicle loan repayable before the officer’s tenure expires.
