House of Representatives Committee Commends Wike for Infrastructural Progress in FCT

The House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for the ongoing infrastructural development projects in Abuja. Committee Chairman Rep. Aliyu Muktar Betara expressed this approval during an interactive session with Moreen Tamuno, Group Managing Director of Abuja Investment Company Limited (AICL), lauding her efforts to boost revenue since assuming office.

AICL’s Role and Achievements

Tamuno highlighted AICL’s management of district markets, such as Wuse Market, which is 90% privately owned, with AICL managing the facility and refuse collection. She emphasized AICL’s commitment to government-controlled pricing, preventing arbitrary increases unlike privately owned markets. Tamuno also addressed measures to curb revenue leakages through improved fare collection systems.

Challenges and Strategic Improvements

Tamuno discussed challenges and improvements within AICL’s various responsibilities, including property management and the Abuja Transport Scheme. She noted that underperforming assets, such as buses, are being reassessed for potential repairs rather than sale. Regarding the Abuja Film Village, Tamuno described efforts to secure and develop the area despite safety concerns.

Committee Support and Future Plans

Lawmakers, including Hon. Betara, commended Tamuno’s leadership and the tangible improvements at AICL. Betara advised removing uncooperative staff to maintain progress. Other members, like Hon. Timilehin Adelegbe and Hon. Regina Akume, echoed this support, emphasizing the importance of a committed and efficient team to realize the FCT’s development goals.

Betara also praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing capable women like Tamuno to critical sectors, acknowledging her demonstrated capacity and encouraging further achievements. The Committee expressed readiness to support AICL and FCT initiatives, highlighting the importance of continued progress and accountability.
