Hollywood Stars Shine in Olivier Awards Nominations

This year’s Olivier Awards nominations have Hollywood stars at the forefront, with Nicole Scherzinger, Sarah Snook, and Sarah Jessica Parker among the chosen talents.

Jamie Lloyd’s musical adaptation of Sunset Boulevard leads the pack with 11 nominations, including Scherzinger for Best Actress in a Musical and Tom Francis for Best Actor in a Musical.

James Graham’s play about Gareth Southgate, Dear England, follows closely with nine nominations, marking Joseph Fiennes’ first Olivier nod for his portrayal of the football manager.

Regarded as the most prestigious event in UK theatre, the Oliviers saw Sunset Boulevard securing nominations across all acting categories in a musical, alongside recognition for Best Musical Revival and Best Director for Jamie Lloyd.

The National Theatre garnered the most nominations across its productions, with Dear England emerging as the most nominated play. Fiennes received a nod for Best Actor, Gina McKee for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Rupert Goold for Best Director.

The nominations also include TV, film, and music luminaries, such as James Norton for A Little Life and Sarah Jessica Parker, who earned her first Olivier nomination for Plaza Suite, alongside her husband Matthew Broderick.

Sarah Snook’s impressive performance in The Picture of Dorian Gray earned her a nomination for Best Actress, while David Tennant received a nod for Best Actor for his role in Macbeth at the Donmar Warehouse.

The Mastercard Best New Musical category features standout nominees like The Little Big Things, Next To Normal, Operation Mincemeat, and A Strange Loop. Similarly, the Best Musical Revival category boasts strong contenders like Groundhog Day, Guys & Dolls, Hadestown, and Sunset Boulevard.

The highly anticipated awards ceremony is set to take place on April 14 at the Royal Albert Hall, with Hannah Waddingham hosting the event.
