A devastating rainstorm in Iyara community, located in the heart of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, has left over 1,000 individuals displaced from their homes.
The catastrophe struck on Monday night, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. In the aftermath, the Eleta Oluyara of Iyara, Oba Jacob Meduten, made a heartfelt plea to government authorities, affluent individuals, and corporate organizations to extend a helping hand to the affected victims, offering a glimmer of hope amidst their plight.
Confirming the extent of the disaster, Mouktar Atimah, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, emphasized the urgency of the situation. He disclosed that upon receiving reports of the incident, swift action was taken to assess the damage firsthand. Atimah stressed the importance of preemptive measures, urging residents to relocate to higher ground and exercise caution in securing their homes, especially during the impending rainy season.
The Kogi State Government echoed the call for vigilance, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
