The management of Havarde College of Science, Business, and Management Studies in Ogun State has strongly denied reports suggesting that one of its students, identified as Ajoke, committed suicide due to the school’s alleged failure to meet accreditation requirements set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
According to the college’s President, Oluwatosin Adebayo, Ajoke left the institution in 2023 due to academic performance issues, and her tragic death was unrelated to the college. Adebayo clarified that Ajoke’s demise was a result of consuming a poisonous substance, motivated by personal circumstances regarding an unwanted pregnancy.
In response to concerns about the accreditation status of the nursing department, Adebayo outlined the college’s compliance with directives from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). He explained that the NBTE required the separation of nursing programs into a distinct entity, prompting the establishment of PenHarvard College of Nursing to offer National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs in Nursing Science.
Emphasizing the college’s adherence to regulatory standards, Adebayo highlighted the establishment of PenHarvard College of Nursing as a separate entity with dedicated infrastructure and equipment, distinct from Havarde College of Science, Business, and Management Studies.
