On Tuesday, Harry Kane will become just the 10th player in history to earn 100 England caps when the Three Lions face Finland in the Nations League at Wembley. The 31-year-old, who made his debut in 2015, has cemented his legacy as England’s all-time top scorer with 66 goals in 99 games.
Joining the ranks of legends like Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, and Bobby Charlton, Kane acknowledges the significance of the milestone. “When you look at the list [of players with 100 caps], it is a list of some of our greatest players,” Kane said, adding that he will take immense pride in the achievement once his career concludes.
Since his debut, Kane has shattered records and consistently performed at the highest level. Remarkably, he scored just 79 seconds into his first appearance in 2015, setting the tone for a prolific international career. Over the years, he has become England’s record scorer in major tournaments, netting 15 goals, and has provided more assists than any other player during his tenure.
Kane’s consistency is evident in his contributions under four different managers, scoring 61 of his goals under Gareth Southgate alone. Speaking about his ability to maintain such high standards, Kane said, “To keep producing great numbers, keep producing great moments is probably the hardest thing to do.”
As Kane celebrates this milestone, he also looks ahead with ambitious goals. Inspired by Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently reached 900 career goals, Kane hopes to continue playing for England well into his 30s, targeting a century of goals for his country. At 31, Kane remains England’s most potent attacking force, with pundits like Chris Sutton predicting he could be at the top for years to come.
Facing Finland, Kane could further etch his name into the history books, as a goal would make him only the third player to score on his 100th England appearance, following in the footsteps of Rooney and Charlton.
