Harry Kane Scores in Bayern’s Victory as Thomas Müller Sets Club Record

Harry Kane opened his Bundesliga account for the season in Bayern Munich’s 2-0 victory over Freiburg, a match that also saw Thomas Müller become the club’s all-time record appearance holder. Kane, who netted 36 goals in the Bundesliga last season, scored from the penalty spot in the 38th minute after Freiburg’s Christian Günter handled the ball inside the penalty area.

Müller, who came on as a second-half substitute, made his 710th competitive appearance for Bayern, surpassing Sepp Maier’s long-standing record of 709. The 34-year-old marked the milestone by scoring his 150th Bundesliga goal in the 78th minute, securing three points for Bayern in their second league win under new manager Vincent Kompany.

Müller’s achievement extends his remarkable record of scoring in each of the last 16 seasons across Europe’s top five leagues, a streak that began in the 2009-10 season.

The match, held at the Allianz Arena, saw Bayern dominate possession and create several chances before Kane’s penalty. Serge Gnabry nearly scored with a deflected shot, and Kane headed narrowly wide after a cross from Michael Olise, who joined Bayern from Crystal Palace in July.

Portugal’s João Palhinha also made his league debut for Bayern, coming on as a substitute. However, Palhinha’s handball in stoppage time gave Freiburg a late penalty, but substitute Lucas Höler missed the opportunity, sending the ball over the bar.
