Halima Abubakar Suspended by Actors Guild Over Misconduct, Faces Further Investigation

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has been indefinitely suspended by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) following accusations of professional misconduct. The suspension stems from allegations that Abubakar was involved in tarnishing the image of Nollywood and spreading false information about her colleagues.

In a statement issued on Friday, the AGN revealed that a two-year covert investigation uncovered Abubakar’s role in what it described as “slandering Nollywood.” The investigation was carried out by a special secret panel, which was tasked with monitoring the activities of certain blogs and bloggers since 2022.

The Guild stated that Abubakar was found “guilty of spreading false information about fellow colleagues, associates, and patrons,” which included accusations of extramarital affairs involving high-profile individuals. The statement noted, “Following the thorough investigative report by the Special Secret Investigation Panel set up to conduct an underground investigation into the activities of some blogs/bloggers since 2022… the Panel found out that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind all the slandering information.”

As a result of the findings, Abubakar has been placed on indefinite suspension and will face the AGN’s National Disciplinary Committee to determine the appropriate punishment. The statement further clarified that Abubakar is barred from participating in any AGN or filming activities.

The Guild also disclosed that other female members are under investigation, particularly regarding the release of names allegedly connected to dealings with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. These investigations are ongoing, with the AGN continuing to monitor the situation closely.
