Guardiola Confirms De Bruyne Will Stay at Manchester City Amid Saudi Interest

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that influential midfielder Kevin de Bruyne will remain at the club, despite heavy speculation linking him with a summer move to Saudi Arabia.

De Bruyne, who has one year left on his contract, had previously mentioned he would consider an offer from the Saudi Pro-League due to the “incredible money” available. However, Guardiola dismissed the possibility of his departure, stating, “Kevin isn’t leaving,” ahead of City’s opening pre-season game against Celtic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The Belgian star was pivotal in City’s Premier League triumph last season, securing their fourth consecutive title and his sixth with the club.

Crystal Palace’s England Euro 2024 squad member Ebereche Eze has been rumored to be a target for City, while Brazil goalkeeper Ederson has also attracted interest from Saudi Arabia. Despite these links, Guardiola believes the squad will largely remain unchanged. “If someone leaves, we are going to talk about that and, of course, until the last day [of the transfer window] we have chances,” he said. “I don’t rule out new players as an option, but I think there is an 85, 90, 95% chance we will have the same squad.”

Manchester City will begin their Premier League title defense against Chelsea on 18 August.
