A tragic incident occurred in Ilare-Ijesa, Osun State, where a 78-year-old grandfather, Akanbi Adedoyin, was killed by his grandson, Kusibe, following a dispute over farm ownership. Kusibe allegedly struck his grandfather on the head with a plank, resulting in severe injuries.
Residents, upon hearing Adedoyin’s cries, rushed to the scene and transported him to a local health facility for initial treatment. However, due to the severity of his wounds and the inability to afford further medical care at Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa, Adedoyin succumbed to his injuries two days later.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the incident: “We were advised to go to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa, but we couldn’t. The man eventually died.”
The assailant, Kusibe, was apprehended by residents and handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps before being transferred to the Esa Oke Division of the Nigeria Police Force. The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that Kusibe had been arrested and taken to court, where he has been remanded in custody.
The Owalare of Ilare, Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, has called for justice to be served to prevent future occurrences.
