Governor Uzodinma Warns Against Planned Nationwide Protest

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, has cautioned against the timing of a planned nationwide protest, citing concerns about the nation’s stability and economic hardships.

Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, Uzodimma spoke to State House correspondents, drawing parallels to the 2020 EndSARS protests. He emphasized the potential risks of such movements being hijacked by criminal elements, exacerbating the already fragile political environment.

The planned protests, set to take place from August 1-10, are in response to growing public dissatisfaction with economic conditions and recent policy decisions. However, Governor Uzodimma urged citizens to consider the broader implications and work towards maintaining national stability.

“No persons have come forward as leaders of the planned protest so far,” he noted, reflecting the decentralized nature of the movement.

Governor Uzodimma’s remarks align with other warnings from federal authorities and public figures who have expressed concerns over the timing and potential consequences of the protests amid Nigeria’s current economic challenges.
