Governor Makinde Leads Campaign for PDP’s Agboola Ajayi in Ondo Governorship Race

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has led the campaign for Chief Agboola Ajayi, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, promising better days ahead and a path to total liberation for the state.

Speaking during the campaign tour, which targeted communities in the Akoko areas, Makinde assured residents that Ajayi would deliver on his promises if elected in the November 16 election. The tour saw PDP leaders from both Oyo and Ondo states visiting several towns and villages in Akoko North-West and Akoko North-East council areas.

The campaign also included stops at the palaces of prominent traditional rulers, such as the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh; the Owa Ale of Ikare Akoko, Oba Adeleke Adegbite; and the Owa of Ogbagi, Oba Victor Adetona.

Governor Makinde emphasized that Ajayi’s administration would actively involve traditional rulers, promising that their roles would be prioritized. He called the upcoming election a “vote of liberation,” noting that once Ajayi is elected, “insecurity will be a thing of the past.”

“If he wins the election, I assure you that Agboola Ajayi will give traditional rulers a place of pride in his administration,” Makinde told the monarchs. “We are behind him and will do everything to ensure victory.”

Ajayi, the former deputy governor of Ondo State, echoed these sentiments, promising to include first-class traditional rulers in key decision-making processes, such as the state’s cash allocation committee. He emphasized the need for security and asked the rulers to advise their subjects to remain peaceful during the election.

Ajayi also warned against election rigging, invoking memories of the 1983 violence in Ondo State, saying, “If they rig in other places, they shouldn’t try it here.”

He concluded by urging peace before, during, and after the election, asking for the support of traditional rulers to ensure a smooth and violence-free election process.
