Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has voiced his assurance of clinching the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the upcoming governorship primaries in the state. Speaking at a strategic meeting of officials and members of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers (LACO-FS) in Akure, the state capital, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed unwavering confidence in his victory.
In a statement released by the LACO-FS State Director of Information, Mr. Kayode Fasua, Governor Aiyedatiwa conveyed his conviction that his triumph in both the primary and general elections is divinely ordained. He attributed his forthcoming success to divine providence, echoing the prophetic foresight of his predecessor, the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Recalling a moment during an executive council meeting after his return from a medical vacation, Governor Aiyedatiwa recounted Governor Akeredolu’s declaration that he would emerge as the next governor of Ondo State. He hailed Governor Akeredolu as a visionary leader whose foresight paved the way for his ascension to power.
Asserting his commitment to the development and transformation of Ondo State, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that his gubernatorial ambition extends beyond the mandate of his joint ticket with the late Governor Akeredolu. He framed his aspiration as a genuine mission to uplift the standard of living for the people of Ondo State.
During the meeting, Dr. Oladipupo Okeyomi, the LACO-FS Convener, highlighted the extensive grassroots support for Governor Aiyedatiwa, with over 250,000 campaigners, termed ‘Foot Soldiers,’ mobilized across the state’s 18 local government areas to secure victory.
However, Okeyomi condemned the exploitation of the late former Governor Akeredolu’s burial event by some gubernatorial aspirants who used it as a platform for premature campaigning and money distribution.
Prince Biyi Poroye, the Co-convener of LACO-FS, reiterated Governor Aiyedatiwa’s popularity among the masses, citing his notable achievements since assuming office.
Looking ahead, Mr. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, the director-general of LACO-FS, announced plans for a comprehensive campaign tour across all local government areas, with Governor Aiyedatiwa spearheading the initiatives.
Governor Aiyedatiwa was honored as the ‘Field Marshall’ of LACO-FS, marking the occasion with the unveiling of campaign wears and tools in preparation for the rigorous electoral campaign ahead.
