A significant fire outbreak occurred at the Kara Quarters Market along Atani Road in Ogbaru Local Government Area on Sunday night, destroying a yet-to-be-determined amount of goods and properties. The fire started around 11:05 pm and took several hours for the state fire service team to extinguish.
Eyewitnesses suggested that a power surge might have caused the fire, which began in one of the shops and quickly spread. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby church and factory.
A statement from the state fire agency confirmed the incident and detailed their response. They received a distress call at 11:14 pm and managed to contain the fire by 1:30 am. The agency advised residents to switch off electrical appliances when not in use and to monitor their wiring and gas connections to prevent similar incidents.
