Gombe Governor Celebrates Teachers on World Teachers’ Day, Highlights Commitment to Education Reform

Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has lauded the dedication and resilience of teachers in Gombe State and across Nigeria, recognizing their crucial role in shaping the next generation. In a goodwill message marking World Teachers’ Day, Yahaya emphasized that quality education is unattainable without prioritizing the well-being and professional development of educators.

In a statement issued by Ismaila Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, Yahaya noted that teachers are vital stakeholders in societal development, underscoring the significance of this year’s theme, “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.” He stated, “In a world that is constantly evolving, the input of teachers in shaping educational policies is important. The theme of this year’s celebration is a call for all of us to recognize the importance of teachers and to ensure that their voices are heard in decision-making processes.”

The governor reflected on his administration’s initiatives aimed at improving teachers’ welfare, including the recruitment of new educators to address manpower shortages, regular payment of salaries and entitlements, and various training and capacity-building programs. He reiterated, “Our administration is committed to ensuring that teachers in Gombe State are well-supported and motivated. We understand that quality education cannot be achieved without investing in the well-being and professional development of our teachers.”

Yahaya further stressed the importance of creating a conducive learning environment, highlighting efforts to revitalize schools and provide modern teaching aids to enhance productivity in the education sector. He acknowledged that these reforms align with the day’s theme, emphasizing that teachers must be central to such initiatives.

As he reaffirmed his government’s dedication to building a robust educational system that prioritizes educators, Yahaya called on all stakeholders to support teachers and ensure their voices are valued. He concluded his message with warm wishes to the leadership of the Gombe State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and all teachers in the state, stating, “Together, let us build a future where education is shaped by those who know it best—our teachers.”
