Gani Adams Urges Government to Address Fuel Subsidy Removal and Electricity Tariff Hike

During the 2024 Oke Ibadan festival, Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, called on the Federal Government to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians due to the removal of fuel subsidy and increased electricity tariffs. He emphasized the need for the government to address the suffering caused by these policies, which have elicited widespread concern among Nigerians.

Adams acknowledged the potential benefits of states having independent power supply, a policy of the current administration that he initially applauded. However, he highlighted the adverse effects of the recent increases in electricity tariffs, which have impacted various sectors of the Nigerian economy and exacerbated the challenges faced by citizens.

He also expressed concerns about the fuel subsidy removal, stating that it has further burdened Nigerians and contributed to economic inflation. Despite his previous support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Adams urged the President to prioritize addressing the pressing issues facing the country, including the widespread demand for restructuring.
