Ganduje’s Arraignment Stalled Due to Failure to Serve Criminal Charges

The arraignment of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, along with his wife, son, and five others, at the Kano State High Court was stalled on Wednesday due to the failure of the state government to serve the criminal charges. The charges against Ganduje and others, bordering on bribery allegations, were not personally served to the respondents, leading to their absence in court.

During the court session presided over by Justice Usman Malam Na’abba, only the counsel representing the 6th respondent was present, while the others were conspicuously absent. The counsel to the Kano State government attempted to move an exparte motion application to serve the respondents through substituted means, but this was objected to by the counsel representing the 6th respondent.

The objection was based on the absence of provisions for service on criminal charges by exparte motion, with the 6th respondent’s counsel vowing to challenge such a move at the Court of Appeal. As a result, Justice Na’abba adjourned the matter till April 29, 2024, for continuation.
