FRSC Investigates Viral Video of Physical Altercation Between Officer and Passenger

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a physical altercation between a passenger and an FRSC officer. The incident occurred on August 23, 2024, along the Asaba-Ogwashi-Ukwu route, involving a Toyota Sienna bus that was stopped for operating without a speed-limiting device, a violation that leads to vehicle impoundment.

During the process, a female passenger reportedly grabbed the steering wheel, preventing the officer from impounding the vehicle as per procedure. In response to the incident, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed concern and disappointment.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed directed the Sector Commander responsible for the area to submit a detailed report within 48 hours.

The statement read: “The Corps Marshal has taken keen notice of a recent video…alleging that one of its staff was involved in a physical altercation with a passenger over the steering wheel in the course of impounding the vehicle of an apprehended traffic offender.”

The FRSC emphasized the gravity of the passenger’s actions while assuring the public that disciplinary measures would be taken if the officer involved is found guilty of any misconduct. The Corps reiterated its commitment to professionalism and its zero-tolerance policy for unprofessional behaviour.
