From Pure Water Seller to Scholar: Ugwu Augustus Earns Full University Scholarship with 309 UTME Score

Ugwu Augustus, a former pure water seller, has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a full scholarship to university after scoring 309 in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to Alex Onyia, the founder of Educare, an organization that prepares candidates for UTME, Augustus, who left school two years ago, was challenged to join a preparatory class and score above 300 to earn the scholarship.

Onyia shared, “This youngster from my village, Ugwu Chibuzo Augustus, scored 309 in JAMB. He left school two years ago and has been selling pure water in the streets. We convinced him to join the JAMB prep program with a promise that he would get a scholarship if he scored above 300.”

Determined to seize the opportunity, Augustus embraced the challenge, attending classes while continuing to sell pure water afterward. His hard work paid off when the UTME results were released, with Augustus achieving an aggregate score of 309 and earning enrollment in the full scholarship program.

“Onyia added that Augustus has created a study group with his classmates where he coaches them on weekends, and all of them scored high,” he concluded.

Augustus’s journey from selling pure water to securing a university scholarship exemplifies the transformative power of education and dedication. His story serves as an inspiration amid the challenges faced by many in pursuing academic excellence.
