France to Host 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, Salt Lake City Selected for 2034

France has been provisionally chosen to host the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, marking the country’s fourth time staging the Winter Games and the first since Albertville 1992. The French Alps bid, presented as the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) preferred option in June, was approved on Wednesday, pending France’s provision of financial guarantees.

However, due to recent elections, the French government has been unable to provide the necessary state and regional guarantees to the IOC. President Emmanuel Macron has committed to addressing this issue, stating that he will ensure the next government includes the guarantees and an Olympic law in its priorities. Macron assured, “Seven years ago we made the same commitment (for Paris 2024), and we delivered. We will do the same.”

The 2030 Games will see major events hosted in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur regions. Meanwhile, Salt Lake City, Utah, has been selected to host the 2034 Winter Games.
