France Full-Back Melvyn Jaminet Suspended for Racist Comments

France full-back Melvyn Jaminet has been suspended for 34 weeks and fined 30,000 euros (£25,335) by the French Rugby Federation (FFR) following a racist video he posted on social media. The video, shared during France’s summer tour of Argentina, included a racist comment directed at the Arab community.

The FFR condemned Jaminet’s actions, stating that he had “harmed the best interests of rugby.” As part of his punishment, Jaminet has the opportunity to reduce his suspension by eight weeks by participating in anti-discrimination activities to promote sportsmanship values. If he completes these activities, he could be available for selection before the 2025 Six Nations.

Jaminet, who was sent home from the tour, has expressed deep remorse for his actions. On Instagram, he stated, “Racism, in all its forms, is unacceptable and goes against everything I believe in.” He acknowledged the FFR’s decision and expressed his willingness to contribute positively to address the incident.

In addition to Jaminet’s suspension, France team-mates Hugo Auradou, 20, and Oscar Jegou, 21, are facing serious charges for the aggravated rape of a 39-year-old woman, which occurred during the same tour.
