Four Dead, Two Injured in Fatal Abeokuta Accident

A tragic accident claimed the lives of four people and left two others injured on Thursday night in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. at the Enu-Gada area of Lafenwa in Abeokuta North Local Government.

The crash involved a granite-laden Mack truck with registration number AAA 86 XX (Lagos), a Honda CRV car with registration number EKY 857 GU (Lagos), and two commercial motorcycles with registration numbers DE 968 VC and AAB 387 VP (Ogun), respectively.

The accident was reportedly caused by a mechanical fault in the truck, leading to a brake failure as it descended the Totoro slope. The truck lost control and rammed over the two motorcycles before crashing into the Honda CRV.

The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of the two motorcyclists and their passengers. The driver of the Honda CRV and a pedestrian sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital by operatives of the state’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement agency (TRACE).

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of TRACE, confirmed the incident, noting that while six people were initially feared dead, the injured Honda CRV driver and the pedestrian were revived thanks to the efforts of first responders and bystanders. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.

Akinbiyi also mentioned that the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene and have not been located. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the accident.
