Former Zamfara Governorship Candidate Accuses Politicians of Sponsoring Banditry in North-West

Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, former Zamfara State governorship candidate, has alleged that top politicians are behind the rising banditry in Nigeria’s North-West region. Shinkafi made the accusation on Saturday amid increasing insecurity, including attacks and kidnappings across the area.

Shinkafi, who serves as the Executive Director of Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development (PAPSD), expressed his support for the Defence Headquarters’ investigation into the sponsorship of banditry in the region. He accused certain politicians of secretly backing the criminal elements, undermining efforts to restore peace.

He commended the recent military successes against bandit leaders such as Kachalla Halilu Sububu, Jamilu Nazakiru, Sani Black, Danbaleri Mashekari, and Wala Baburki, following directives from President Bola Tinubu. Shinkafi emphasized that the military’s efforts are crucial for restoring peace and development in the region.

“The spate of killings, kidnappings, destruction of property, and displacement of people by these criminals is alarming. A concerted military effort is needed to crush them and restore national security,” he stated.

Shinkafi also called for an investigation into politicians who use banditry for political gain, warning that those found culpable should face the full weight of the law, regardless of their position. He further criticized the use of insecurity as a campaign tool and a means to siphon public funds.
