Former Senator Accuses Buhari of Economic Mismanagement, Credits Tinubu’s Policies

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Sani Shehu, has pointed fingers at former President Muhammadu Buhari, holding him accountable for the current economic challenges in Nigeria. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani asserted that Buhari’s administration fundamentally dismantled the Nigerian economy, paving the way for the prevailing economic hardships.

According to Sani, several economic policies crucial for stabilizing the economy were left unimplemented during Buhari’s tenure, ultimately leading to its deterioration. He emphasized that the economic burden currently faced by Nigerians is a direct consequence of the failures of the past administration.

Sani further lauded President Bola Tinubu’s transparency regarding his policies during his campaign, particularly in relation to the removal of subsidies. He commended Tinubu for his upfront approach, stating that Nigerians were aware of the potential ramifications of his policies before he assumed office.

Acknowledging the recent protests organized by Nigerians, including the nationwide action led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Sani emphasized the importance of distinguishing between organized protests and those driven by unorganized civil society groups. While supporting the rights of organizations like the NLC to protest, Sani cautioned against potential unrest instigated by unorganized factions.

The economic policies implemented by Tinubu’s administration, particularly the removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of the forex rate, have stirred discontent among some segments of the population, prompting protests in several states. Despite the challenges faced, Sani reiterated that Nigerians must confront the realities of past failures and embrace the necessary reforms to address the country’s economic woes.
