Former President Obasanjo Urges Sacrifice and Unity During Visit to Edo State

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, during a courtesy visit to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, emphasized the importance of sacrifice and selflessness among political leaders, urging them to prioritize the well-being of the nation and its people.

Governor Obaseki warmly received Obasanjo at the Government House in Benin City, where the former President commended the governor for his hospitality and highlighted the need for Nigerians to maintain faith in the country despite prevailing challenges.

Obasanjo acknowledged the hardships facing Nigeria but remained optimistic, stating, “The situation in Nigeria is hard, but no bad situation can’t be made good. The question is, when and how? All we should be saying to those who have the opportunity now is to do their best.”

He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility and sustainable development, urging leaders to adopt a mindset of unity and inclusivity in governance. Obasanjo stressed the significance of considering future generations in decision-making processes, emphasizing the concept of “we” over “me.”

Reflecting on Governor Obaseki’s developmental achievements over the past seven and a half years, Obasanjo expressed admiration for the progress made in Edo State. He underscored the value of firsthand experience in understanding the dynamics of governance and lauded the governor for his dedication to the state’s development.

Regarding his own health and vitality, Obasanjo attributed it to the grace of God and shared insights into maintaining well-being. He outlined the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, adequate rest, regular exercise, medical check-ups, social interaction, and contentment as key factors contributing to good health and longevity.
