Former President Muhammadu Buhari expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia State and former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation. Onu, aged 72, passed away on Thursday, leaving behind a legacy of intellectual prowess and political leadership.
In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari hailed Onu as “one of Nigeria’s most outstanding scientific minds and intellectuals.” The former president extended his heartfelt condolences to Onu’s family, describing him as a notable politician and intellectual giant.
Acknowledging Onu’s significant contributions to the All Nigeria Peoples Party as its former chairman, Buhari expressed solidarity with the people of Abia State and the nation as a whole in mourning the loss of such a distinguished figure.
With a heavy heart, Buhari remarked, “He was an intellectual giant.” He conveyed his sympathies to Onu’s family and the entire nation, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
