A notable group of former leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, including Uche Secondus and members of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the party’s 2023 general elections, have pledged their loyalty and support to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Dr. Abiye Sekibo, the former Minister of Transportation and Director-General of the PDP-PCC Rivers State, announced this declaration during a news briefing held in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
The briefing, attended by prominent figures such as Secondus, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Austin Opara, Celestine Omehia, former Deputy Governor Tele Ikuru, Senator Lee Maeba, and former Secretary to the Rivers State Government Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, among others, marked a significant shift in political allegiance.
It’s worth noting that the council had previously thrown its support behind the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar. However, with this latest development, the group has expressed its solidarity with President Tinubu and Governor Fubara, signaling a realignment of political affiliations in the state.
Further details regarding the implications and motives behind this declaration are expected to emerge in subsequent updates.
