FG Boosts Auto Gas Conversion Kits Distribution to States

The Federal Government, through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi), has expanded the distribution of auto gas conversion kits across Nigeria, aiming to accelerate the conversion of vehicles from petrol to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The initiative is part of the government’s plan to transition to cleaner and more affordable automotive fuel.

Speaking at NIPCO’s CNG facility in Ogun State, P-CNGi representative Moses Onate announced that 10,000 conversion kits have been dispatched to states like Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos, and Oyo. “The goal is to provide a cheaper and cleaner alternative to petrol,” Onate said, emphasizing the benefits of the CNG program, launched under President Bola Tinubu’s directive to reduce fuel costs for Nigerians.

NIPCO Engineer Nwaodu Austin Chinedu confirmed that the distribution of the kits is progressing smoothly, with the company’s warehouse consistently stocked. The partnership between NIPCO and P-CNGi is set to convert one million vehicles, starting with commercial transport vehicles.

The initiative includes free conversion kits for commercial vehicles transporting people, food, and goods, with the government earlier approving the rollout of CNG for vehicles at ₦230 per liter. Conversion efforts are further supported by ride-sharing companies like Bolt and Uber, who will receive discounted conversion services.

With this effort, the government aims to diversify Nigeria’s energy sources while providing immediate relief to those impacted by high petrol prices.
