Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has publicly denied any association or dealings with controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. Falana addressed the claims during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, refuting allegations that he had helped secure a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for N10 million.
The controversy arose after a viral audio clip surfaced, in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against her. Additionally, the crossdresser suggested that influential individuals, including the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, facilitated her serving a six-month sentence in a private apartment rather than in prison. Bobrisky also implied involvement with Falana.
In response, Falana firmly stated that he has never met or spoken with Bobrisky. He explained that while his son, Folarin (Falz), had been contacted by Bobrisky, no assistance was provided. According to Falana, Bobrisky had requested N3 million to secure a place in the VIP section of the prison, but Falz refused to offer any help, warning Bobrisky against such actions.
Falana further emphasized his long-standing dedication to helping over 280 convicted individuals, both locally and internationally, to receive pardons, and clarified that he has never demanded or received money for his services in such cases.
This statement follows a public apology from blogger Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, who had previously made derogatory claims about Falana’s involvement with Bobrisky but later retracted these allegations before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions.
